A benchmark in energy efficiency and care for people

Oxxeo, built by OHL, Best office building in Spain

Its innovative and avant-garde character, aimed mainly at the well-being of its users, are two of the criteria that have earned the Oxxeo building, built by OHL in the Las Tablas district of Madrid, the award for Best new-build office building 2018, awarded by the Spanish Association of Offices. Its uniqueness has also made it the first office building in Spain to implement a dynamic lighting system adapted to the circadian cycle of people.

These and other sustainability and energy efficiency criteria have enabled it to achieve the prestigious LEED Platinum Core & Shell certification, the highest possible distinction awarded by the US Green Building Council (USGBC), in addition to the Well Gold certification, a distinction focused on people's health and well-being and which is in the process of being obtained. Oxxeo also holds the 5-star DIGA accessibility certification (Distinctive Indicator of the Degree of Accessibility).

OHL accumulates, in the field of building, extensive experience in the construction and rehabilitation of buildings in which it incorporates criteria of energy sustainability, recognized by prestigious international certifications such as LEED® (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design), granted by the U.S. Green Building Council; BREEAM®, which recognizes the optimization of natural resources and the construction materials used; Passivhaus, which promotes the optimization of the energy generated, and the Sustainable Building Certification (SBC), which allows the inclusion of passive energy saving strategies. In addition, in the field of health and well-being of people, the WELL certification will be sought, considered the first in the world focused exclusively on the health and well-being of people.

The projects carried out by the company include the rehabilitation of the Castellana 81 building (Madrid, Spain) and the Sunset Office Center (Miami, USA), both LEED® Platinum. In addition, the Castellana 81 building is certified as “WELL Gold”, a Core & Shell typology, becoming the first building in Spain and one of the first five in Europe to achieve this distinction.

Also, Torrespacio, a skyscraper built by OHL in Madrid, in the well-known Cuatro Torres Business Area and which houses the headquarters of OHL in Spain, holds BREEAM® certification for excellent use; and the new building of internal medicine and geriatrics of the Olomouc hospital (Czech Republic) is Passivhaus certified. Meanwhile, the future Curicó Hospital (Chile) opts for SBC certification.
