OHL completes a section of its second project on the Pacific Highway, one of the Australia's most important highways

The joint venture held at 50% each by OHL and the Australian company York Civil has completed a section of the most important highway in Australia. The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of New South Wales, Andrew Constance, together with the Minister of Roads, Maritime Services and Merchandise of New South Wales, Melinda Pavey, have inaugurated the first 10 kilometers of the contract for 14 kilometers between Woolgoolga and Halfway Creek, on one of the most important highways in the country, the Pacific Highway. The remaining four kilometers will open to traffic, predictably, between the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018.

The contract was awarded by the Department of Roads and Maritime Services of New South Wales to OHL in a joint venture with local construction company York Civil for a budget of 160 million euro.

The contract has been to double the Pacific Highway by building a two-lane highway with a total length of 14.6 km, including twelve kilometers of local roads, eight bridges and three overpasses on the Range Road interchange, plus a rest area.

The award is jointly funded by New South Wales and the Australian Government and is part of the investment plan launched by the Australian authorities to improve the capacity and traffic safety of the Pacific Highway connecting the cities of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, and Brisbane, in the state of Queensland. The plan has a total Investment of 2.9 billion.

Within this improvement plan, the Joint Venture formed by OHL and McConnell Dowell, at 50% each, has recently completed another of its most important actions in Australia: a stretch of 14 km, between the towns of Kundabung and Kempsey, in the state of New Wales from the south. This contract was awarded by the Department of Roads and Maritime Services of New South Wales to OHL in a joint venture with local construction company York Civil for a budget of 117 million euro.

Presence since 2011

OHL entered the Australian market in 2011 by rebuilding a section of the Peak Downs highway in the State of Queensland for 58 million euro.  In 2014, OHL undertook the improvement of the first phase of Schofields Road in New South Wales, with a budget of 44 million euro. And subsequently, the group has participated in the reconstruction of the Seventh Avenue bridge in Perth, measuring 83.5 meters in length, with a budget of 7.2 million euro.

OHL is currently executing the second phase of Schofields Road, with a budget of 55 million euro, in a 50% joint venture with the local company York Civil. The work consists of 4 kilometers of the existing Schofields Road, including viaducts, pedestrian crossings and various engineering structures.
