The first phase of the CHUM Hospital is operational

The first phase of the Hospital Center of the University of Montreal (CHUM) in Quebec (Canada) is now operational. The transfer of patients to the different facilities will begin on October 8th and finish at the end of the month of November. The CHUM Hospital will host the patients and equipment of the hospitals Saint-Luc, Notre-Dame and Hôtel-Dieu in the same enclosure.

This is the largest health infrastructure in North America and the largest public-private health-care project in Canada throughout history. The official inauguration ceremony, held on September 17, was attended by Quebec Prime Minister Philippe Couillard and Quebec Minister of Higher Education, Hélène David, among other authorities. 

The project includes design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance under concession with a term of 38.8 years from the signing of the contract in June 2011.

OHL participates in the concessionaire company, Collectif Santé Montreal, at 25%. 

OHL and Laing O'Rourke have executed the design and construction work though a 50% owned company, which has a budget of CAN $1,641 billion (1,132 billion euro). 

This first phase has an area of ​​268,000 m2 and is equipped with three buildings with 25 floors each and a total of 772 rooms. In addition, it has 15 internal consultation services, 40 outpatient clinics and 39 operating rooms, among other services. It will also provide a high-level learning environment for nearly 5,000 undergraduates and interns from all areas of health care.
